In the annals of human history, the Holocaust stands as one of the darkest chapters, a chilling testament to the depths of human depravity. Amidst the unimaginable suffering and loss, stories of survival and resilience emerged, beacons of hope in the face of unimaginable adversity.

One such story is that of Eva Mozes Kor, a young girl who endured the horrors of Auschwitz and went on to become a tireless advocate for peace and understanding. Born in Romania in 1934, Eva's childhood was shattered by the Nazi invasion in 1944. Along with her family, she was rounded up and sent to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.

At Auschwitz, Eva and her sister Miriam were subjected to unimaginable cruelty and medical experimentation. They were separated from their parents and forced to endure horrific conditions. Despite the unspeakable horrors they faced, Eva and Miriam clung to a flicker of hope, a belief that they would survive and that their story would serve as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.

In January 1945, as the Soviet army approached Auschwitz, the Nazis began to evacuate the camp. Eva and Miriam were among the thousands of prisoners who were forced on a death march to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. After weeks of unimaginable suffering, they were finally liberated by British troops in April 1945.

In the aftermath of the war, Eva and Miriam emigrated to the United States, where they eventually settled in Terre Haute, Indiana. Determined to rebuild their lives and make a difference in the world, Eva founded the CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center in 1995. Through her work at the museum, Eva shared her story with countless people, inspiring them with her message of hope and forgiveness.

Eva's journey from Auschwitz to the New World is a testament to the indomitable spirit of the human soul. Despite the unimaginable horrors she endured, she emerged from the depths of despair with a profound message of love and reconciliation. Her story is a reminder that even in the darkest of times, hope can endure, and that the human capacity for forgiveness and compassion is limitless.

As we mark the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, it is more important than ever to remember the stories of those who survived the Holocaust. Their stories remind us of the horrors of war and the importance of standing up to hatred and intolerance. They also remind us of the power of the human spirit and the resilience of the human soul.

Eva Mozes Kor's story is a beacon of hope in the face of adversity. Her journey from Auschwitz to the New World is a testament to the power of the human spirit and the importance of forgiveness and compassion. May her story continue to inspire us all to work towards a more just and peaceful world.
