The story of Little Darcy May, a 10-week-old puppy who was abandoned in a cardboard box, has shocked and saddened animal lovers across the country. How could someone be so cruel to such a helpless creature?

Darcy May was found by a member of the public in a layby in Essex, England, on 17th August 2023. She was all alone, scared, and hungry. The kind-hearted person who found her took her to the nearest RSPCA animal centre, where she was given food, water, and a warm bed.

RSPCA staff were shocked by Darcy May's condition. She was severely underweight and had a number of health problems, including a skin infection and ear mites. She was also very frightened and anxious.

"Darcy May is one of the most vulnerable animals we have ever seen," said RSPCA inspector Tina Hunter. "She is so young and helpless, and she has been through so much already. It is heartbreaking to think that someone could have abandoned her like this."

The RSPCA is now investigating how Darcy May came to be abandoned. They are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

"We are ng everything we can to help Darcy May," said Tina. "She is now in our care, and she is receiving the treatment she needs. We are also working to find her a loving new home where she can be happy and safe."

Darcy May's story is a reminder of the horrific cruelty that animals can suffer at the hands of humans. It is also a reminder of the importance of the RSPCA's work. The RSPCA is a charity that works to prevent cruelty to animals and to rescue and rehabilitate animals in need.

If you are concerned about an animal, please contact the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.
